• Manuscript 522, dating from the fourteenth century, is a composite manuscript. It was owned by Ter Doest Abbey. The manuscript contains didactic and theoretical treatises on celestial bodies. The document is richly illustrated technical illustrations: tables, geometric figures, drawings of instruments. It contains three treatises by Johannes de Sacrobosco (d. 1256): De sphaera, Computus Ecclesiasticus and Algorismus. A fourth treatise De compositione et utilitate astrolabii explains the working of an astrolabe. Folios 61v-62r contain detailed drawings of astrolabes. The work has been ascribed to the astronomer Mashallah ibn Athari (d. 820) and was translated by John of Seville (c. 1120/53-). The document also contains the treatise by Robertus Anglicus (c. 1250/71): Expositio quadrantis. Theorica planetarum is a text dealing with the study of the movement of celestial bodies, written by an anonymous author. Furthermore, the composite manuscript also contains De motu octavae sphaerae by Thabit ibn Qurra (836 - 901), also a study on the celestial bodies. Lastly, it contains a treatise on the ecclesiastical calendar by Balduinus de Marrochio (13th century). [Summary by Sarah Vanroye]
