Notes

Data Source: Leiden University Libraries Digital Collections

  • Textual: Ptolemy included astronomical tables in his Syntaxis, but republished them with an introduction in a second work, the 'Handy tables' (gr. Procheiroi kanones, lat. tabulae manuales). Theon of Alexandria wrote a 'Great commentary' on those tables (5 books; extant: books 1-3 and beginning of 4), and a 'Little commentary' (1 book; extant).
  • Also described by Pinakes.
  • Several missing leaves of the oldest part (first quarter 9th century) were replaced in the 13th century, except for a missing leaf after f. 57 (now ff. 1-2, 52-152). In the late 13th or early 14th century a new part (now ff. 3-51) was added. Some other texts were added on empty pages (ff. 2v, 53v) or inserted on new leaves (ff. 156-161, 162-163).
  • Transferred from the Oriental manuscripts before 1852 (mentioned in Geel 1852). Former shelfmark: Or. 182.
