  • Manuscript 153 contains no less than 21 different texts, all written by or (erroneously) attributed to Hugh of Saint-Victor (d. 1141), an important pre-Thomist scholastic theologian and a prolific writer: (ff. 1v-56r) Hugo de Sancto Victore super Lamentationes; (ff. 68r-69v) De verbo incarnato; (ff. 70r-v) De triplici pace hominis; (ff. 70v-74v) De sapientia Dei; (ff. 74v-75v) De terra anime et celo eius; (ff. 75v-77v) Sententiae de verbis euangelii; (ff. 77v-78r; ff. 78r-79v; 83r-84r) three fragments of the Didascalicon de studio legendi; (ff. 92v-97v) Eulogium sponsi et sponse; (ff. 97v-105v) De virtute orandi; (ff. 105v-113v) De sapientia Christi; (ff. 113v-117r) De cibo Emanuelis; (ff. 117r-122r) De laude caritatis; and (ff. 122r-145r) Solutiones diuersarum sentenciarum ex scripturis. The last six texts can be found in Ms. 156 also, another collection of Hugh's works. The works of which the authorship is debated (and which are now ascribed to pseudo-Hugh of Saint-Victor), are (ff. 56v-66v) Epistola de praevaricatione Adae; (ff. 66v-68r) De quadripartito iudicio Dei; (ff. 79v-82v) De Trinitate; and (ff. 84r) Exhortatio ad virgins. Two unnamed texts are of an unknown author: (ff. 83r) A comparison in verse between Mary and Moses; and (ff. 84r-91r) a commentary on Sirach 39:17. The manuscript was copied in the twelfth century in the scriptorium of either Ten Duinen or Ter Doest. The text is copied in two columns. Initials have been added in red and green (and two in blue; f. 83r + 84r), the larger ones decorated with penwork in the other colour. Rubrics, titles and Roman numerals in indices have been executed in red ink. The last verso bears an ownership inscription of Ter Doest. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
