  • Manuscript 253 dates back to the first half of the fourteenth century. It was part of Ter Doest Abbey. The document contains the unfinished Alphabetum by Peter of Capua (d. 1214). The Alphabetum is a collection of his distinctiones made up alphabetically as a dictionary. The text is written in a littera textualis. Colours are used for the decorations and the page layout. The colours red and blue are used alternately for the paragraphs; alternately for the titles; and the colour red for each meaning, modus and interpretation of a word. The first word of a new classification are alternately red and blue with the letters stretched out or with filigree decoration. The copyist has added in references to similar distinctiones for different words, using black ink. [Summary by Sarah Vanroye]
