  Englische Version: Johann Franz Eckher von Kapfing und Liechteneck (1649 to 1727), Prince-Bishop of Freising from 1695 to 1727, entrusted Johann Michael von Prey zu Straßkirchen (1690 to 1747) with the historical and genealogical research, whom he had employed in 1713 as privy and chamber counsellor and archivist. The famous Grabsteinbuch (Book of tombstones) was probably written during this time of cooperation. It is an inventory of more than 2,000 gravestones in four volumes on 391 sheets, which was compiled out of historiographic interest. Even if this collection partly overlaps with Wolfgang Schaumberger's (1689 to 1721) Centones stemmatographici (Cgm 2273) collected by order of the prince bishop, the special regional-historical value of the work is based on the fact that it documents numerous monuments that no longer exist today, at least not in the original.
  Johann Franz Eckher von Kapfing und Liechteneck (1649-1727), von 1695 bis 1727 Fürstbischof von Freising, nahm Johann Michael Wilhelm von Prey zu Straßkirchen (1690-1747) 1713 als Hof- und Kammerrat sowie Archivar in seine Dienste und übertrug ihm historische und genealogische Forschungsarbeiten. In der Zeit der Zusammenarbeit dürfte das berühmte Grabsteinbuch entstanden sein – eine vom historiographischen Interesse beflügelte Inventarisierung von über 2.000 Grabsteinen in vier Bänden auf 391 Blatt. Auch wenn sich diese Sammlung zum Teil mit Wolfgang Schaumbergers (1689-1721) im Auftrag des Fürstbischofs gesammelten Centones stemmatographici (Cgm 2273) überschneidet, liegt der besondere landesgeschichtliche Wert des Werks in der Tatsache begründet, dass in ihm zahlreiche heute im Original verloren gegangene Monumente dokumentiert werden.
