  • Manuscript 59 is a copy of the gospel of Matthew with the Glossa Ordinaria from the third quarter of the twelfth century (c. 1170-1180), written possibly in the area of Liège. The layout is similar to the other glossed copies of this gospel, with the text itself in the central column, surrounded by two columns of marginal glosses. Two folia (ff. 9-10) are misbound and contain part of the prologue. On the verso of the latter leaf is a remarkable diagram in the shape of a series of concentric circle, carrying the title 'Ordo figure subscriptus patrie reditum docet' and containing virtues, the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the beatitudes. The manuscript is bound in blindstamped calf over wooden boards. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
