  • This thirteenth-century manuscript contains the commentaries of Hugh of Saint-Cher on four parts of the Bible: (ff. 1r-76v) on the Pentateuch; (ff. 77r-118r) on Job; (ff. 119r-134v) on the Psalter; and (ff. 135r-203v) on the Gospel according to Matthew. Hugh of Saint-Cher (De Sancto Caro, d. 1263) was a French Dominican and later a cardinal, whose commentary on the entire Bible was widely read and studied. The texts are copied in two columns and structured with decorated initials alternately in red and blue. On 203r an attempt had been made to create an alphabetical register of important topics found in the Gospel of Matthew. This table was organised in five columns. Only the first page was completed, containing the letters A to C. On the final page of the commentary of Matthew the ownership inscription of Ter Doest is found. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
