Manuscript 297 holds three texts by Galand de Reigny (Galandus Regniacensis), a twelfth-century Cistercian monk. The main text is his Parabolium, a collection of 52 fables and fictional stories for the spiritual development and entertainment of monks. Before and after the Parabolium (ff. 1r-4r and 165r-167v) two letters have been copied, both written by Galand to Bernard of Clairvaux. The manuscript was copied in the final quarter of the twelfth century, probably in Ten Duinen. The text is written in a single column per page, with red ink used for the initials and rubrics. On the last page (f. 167v) an ownership inscription of Ten Duinen abbey is found. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
