  • Manuscript 552 holds two works of the Roman orator Cicero, with glosses of the eleventh-century Menegald: (ff. 1r-51r) Rhetorici libri duo qui vocantur De inventione; (ff. 51r-52v) Menegaldi in Ciceronis Rhetorica glose; and (ff. 52v-96v) Rhetorica ad Herennium. The manuscript is probably written in the north of France, during the second quarter of the twelfth century. The text is copied in a single column per page, though not very neatly. Words have been erased or added interlineally. The outer margins are quite wide, allowing the addition of notes. Rubrics have been added in red ink, initials in green and red ink. Several initials have been decorated, including those at the begin of each of Cicero's texts (f. 1r, f. 27r and f. 52v). [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
