    • Variante(s) de prénom : Johannes. - Imprimeur-libraire et relieur ; journaliste. - Natif de Muhlbach-sur-Munster (Haut-Rhin), fils du pasteur du lieu Georg Carle (ou : Carolus). Reçu bourgeois de Strasbourg par mariage en juillet 1599. Relieur, il reprend en août 1604 l'imprimerie de Tobias Jobin. Après avoir diffusé des nouvelles à la main, il fonde en 1605 le premier hebdomadaire d'information imprimé, la "Relation aller Fürnemmen und gedenckwürdigen Historien", qui sera publié jusqu'en 1667. Décédé à Strasbourg en août 1634 ; dit alors âgé de 60 ans. Son frère Moritz Carolus lui succède (Source : BnF)
