• This manuscript contains the gospel of Matthew together with the Glossa ordinaria. The gospel, written in a larger size, occupies the central column on each page, with the explanation of the verses in the two outer columns (marginal glosses) and in between the gospel text (interlinear glosses). Despite the carefully designed mise-en-page, the manuscript is not entirely finished. A large space, approximately half the height of the leaf has been left open for the initial 'L' at the beginning of the gospel, and the space for a smaller initial at the beginning of the glosses also remains empty. The text is plain and monochrome. The manuscript dates from the early thirteenth century, probably around the year 1210. It is suggested that the codex has been written in England, a country Ter Doest had close connections with. It was acquired by a Ter Doest monk named Adam, who gifted it to his abbey's library. This bequest was recorded on the final leaf. The cross-shaped stamp of Ten Duinen is found on the second and last leaf. On the first leaf a list has been added with the appropriate Sunday readings from the gospel. The binding is modern calf. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
