• The contents of manuscript 107 are unequally divided between two texts. The main part (ff. 1r-169v) is formed out of the first fourteen books of the De Civitate Dei, the magnum opus of Saint Augustine (354-430). In this work, comprising 22 books, Augustine expresses fierce critique on Roman religion and presented his dualistic worldview of the Earthly City and the City of God. The other books exist in a fifteenth-century copy, kept at the Library as manuscript 108. The last leaves (ff. 170r-171r) contain the Prophetia Sibille, a prophecy attributed to the Tiburtine Sybil, a Roman oracle. The text is copied in two columns. A table of contents is found at the beginning of each book, with each chapter title alternately in red and green and with Roman chapter numbering in red. The same alternate colouring is used in the initials found at the beginning of each chapter, and in the larger and more elaborately executed initials at the beginning of each book. Rubrics are found between books. An ownership inscription of Ter Doest is found at the end of book fourteen. The Prophetia has a single green initial at the beginning of the text. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
