HIC REQUIESCIT CAPUT PRAECURSORIS DOMINI
Traduction — Ici repose le chef du Précurseur du Seigneur
Commentaire historique et datation — Adémar de Chabannes relate, dans sa chronique, cette découverte, qu'il date d'octobre 1010, et l'érection du reliquaire d'argent destiné à abriter le chef de saint Jean Baptiste[*].
L'inscription fut composée vers 1010, au moment de la fabrication du reliquaire.
